Dr. Emile Shumbusho is a healthcare epidemiologist and infection preventionist at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY where his responsibilities include but not limited to the surveillance and prevention of healthcare-associated infections and other highly contagious pathogens, to educate healthcare personnel & the community about infectious diseases, implementation of the infection prevention & control program, as well as the antimicrobial stewardship program. 

Dr. Shumbusho is a medical graduate of the University of Rwanda School of Medicine and Pharmacy, and he obtained his master’s degree in public health at Wright State University/ Boonshoft School of Medicine in Kettering, OH. His professional certifications include certification in infection prevention and control by the Certification Board of Infection Control & Epidemiology (CBIC). 

Dr. Shumbusho is a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control & Epidemiology (APIC), the leading professional association for infection preventionists, where he serves at APIC Emerging Infectious Diseases Task Force. He is also a member of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). 

Dr. Shumbusho is an outspoken champion for equal and safe healthcare access for the underserved. He is an active contributor to Ebenezer Healthcare Access’s own clinical content & cultural validation task force.
